Video Block - Posting Responsive & Compliant Videos

The Video Block provides an easy method of embedding videos from YouTube or Vimeo to a Foxbright website. YouTube and Vimeo offer free accounts where videos can be uploaded. Uploaded videos can be set as private/unlisted in the YouTube/Vimeo settings if they shouldn't appear in search results outside of the Foxbright website. The Video Block ensures the embedded video is responsive to different window sizes and devices.

To make an embedded video ADA compliant, the video should have captions and a transcript file should be provided to visitors. The Audio and Video - Transcripts/Captions article explains how to create these files and provides additional resources for ADA compliant videos. Some streaming providers will auto-caption videos and allow editing of the captions. It is recommended to review autogenerated captions to ensure accuracy.

Using the Video Block

  1. Add a new block to a page by choosing the Video block type when adding a new block.
  2. Give the video a Title. The title can be hidden or displayed as a heading 2 style above the video. A title is required for each video for ADA compliance whether or not it is displayed.
  3. Choose either YouTube or Vimeo from the Video Source drop-down.
  4. Ratio - This option creates space for the video embed. Most videos are 16:9, however other ratios can be selected if the video ratio is known.
  5. Orientation - Most videos are landscape.
  6. Paste the video URL in the Video Link or Id field.
  7. Show Title - Will display the title text as a heading 2 above the video.
  8. Autoplay - Will make the video autoplay when the page is visited. This function only works if the video is silent. Some browsers may autoplay videos with sound, but will mute the audio.
  9. Loop - Will make the video loop once the end is reached.
  10. Start Time - add a numerical value for seconds to have the video start part-way into the video.
  11. Save the block and the video will be embedded on the webpage.
  12. Once videos are added to the page, they can be drag-and-dropped to other sections of the page to re-arrange.

Alert
Occasionally the URL copied from the browser's web address won't populate the video block due to additional characters in the URL. If your video isn't displaying, tryusing the URL provided by the streaming service's share button on the video and copy the video URL provided by YouTube/Vimeo to use in the Video Block. Other issues could be the result of permission settings for the video. Contact support@foxbright.com for additional troubleshooting if needed.

Using a Video for the Banner / Focus Area

Embedded videos can work in the focus area instead of rotators or images. Some websites have this section locked to a rotator or image block. To unlock this section, contact support@foxbright.com. If the section is unlocked, the block can be changed to the video block. Other block types are not recommended for this area.
